Welcome to the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize

In the early 1990s, the Belizean Government recognized the need for a new open registry in the maritime industry that could offer competitive fees and good services to ship owners and operators worldwide. To meet this demand, the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (IMMARBE) was established in May 1991, providing a reliable and efficient registration service. The maritime administration had the full support of the government, which was committed to upholding the highest standards of safety for human life at sea, preserving the marine environment, and safeguarding crew members on board its ships.

After over thirty years in operation, the Government of Belize continues its commitment to the maritime administration of Belize. IMMARBE is a statutory body structured under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, a portfolio ministry that falls directly under the Prime Minister of Belize. On behalf of the Government of Belize, IMMARBE is charged with delivering the range of responsibilities and services associated with maritime flag administration. IMMARBE is governed under the auspices of the Merchant Ships (Registration) Act, Chapter 236, Revised Edition 2020. The management of the IMMARBE fleet is done in compliance with the various applicable international legislative regulations, conventions, and standards as stipulated by the International Maritime Organization, (IMO).

The Head Office which facilitates and controls all registration, technical, and seafarer services is located in Belize City, Belize with other designated offices located worldwide. These designated offices are empowered to process registration applications and issue the relevant documentation. Our Regional Office in Spain continues to advise, assist, and provide support on technical matters to our fleet of vessel owners and operators, Deputy Registrars, Recognized Organizations, Ship Owners, and Managers effectively and efficiently.

IMMARBE offers an excellent standard of services and operations to our clients within the maritime industry. The age limit, the increased presence of safety inspectors, intense monitoring campaigns to ensure detention ratios, and constant auditing on Recognized Organizations (RO) and ship operators are best business practices that have been implemented to guarantee that we operate a reputable open registry and friendly flag of quality.
