Mayan Ruins and Temples
Belize has over 600 Maya ruins and temples, the Maya civilization in Belize dates back to as early as 1500 B.C. and reached its peak between 300 A.D and 900 A.D.
The accomplishments of the Maya civilization can be viewed by the magnificent temples, and ceremonial sites scattered all over Belize. Some of the famous sites are Caracol, Xunantunich, Altun Ha, and Lamanai, each site with its unique history and grandeur architecture.
The Belize Barrier Reef
The Belize Barrier Reef is located couple miles off the coast of Belize and is a part of the larger Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. The reef extends over 180 miles for exploring, snorkeling beneath the surface to view colorful coral life, swim with the whale shark, and dive deep into the Great Blue Hole. It is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Belize Barrier Reef provides a crucial balance for the marine system.
The Great Blue Hole
The Great Blue Hole is a large underwater sinkhole located off the coast of Belize. The hole is circular in shape, over 300 metres (984 ft.) across, and 125 metres (410 ft.) deep. It is a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
1,000 Foot Falls
The thousand-foot falls is a picturesque waterfall, located inside of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve in western Belize. The falls is the highest in the country and the entire Central American Region. The actual height of the waterfall is 1,600 feet.
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
A unique sanctuary in southern Belize which covers an area of about 150 square miles of tropical forest. This reserve was established to help protect the endangered jaguar which are native to Belize and is the world’s only Jaguar Preserve.
