Monitoring the Belize fleet, Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) and Automatic Identification System (AIS)

IMMARBE technical department in compliance with SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 19-1 is in charge of the Long-Range Identification Tracking (LRIT) for Belize-registered ship of 300  gross tonnages and above that falls under its requirements. The use of the LRIT is to enhance the safety and security of ships and their crews. LRIT is a global monitoring system that enables the automatic and continuous exchange of ship position and other information between ships and authorized receivers on shore. IMMARBE’s Authorized Service Provider (ASP) is POLESTAR., 

Additionally, in compliance with SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 19.2.4, all ships of 300 gross tonnages and upwards engaged on international voyages and cargo ships of 500 gross tonnages and upward not engaged on international voyages and passenger ships irrespective of size shall be fitted with an Automatic Identification System (AIS).  

Both, the LRIT and AIS shall is required to be in working at all times and transmitting its position without any interruption or manipulation. 

 IMMARBE is not only ensuring that all registered ships are in compliance with National and International requirements. IMMARBE is also committed to ensuring the safe and secure operation of its fleet and therefore, a complete Monitoring System was created with the resources available like the LRIT and subscriptions for the use of the Automatic Identification System (AIS). The monitoring of the fleet falls under the obligations of the Technical Department and includes the screening of any ship found passing nearby any area known for illicit activities, areas under conflict, high-risk areas, etc. If any vessel after a proper screening is found not in compliance or manipulating any of the above-mentioned systems, will be subject to a disciplinary evaluation.
