Mortgage Registration

IMMARBE provides mortgage recording services for vessel registered under the Belize Registry. Mortgages are bilateral contracts between the mortgagor (shipowner) and the mortgagee (lender). The owner of a registered vessel in respect of which the ownership title has been registered, either preliminary or permanent, may mortgage it as security for a loan or other valuable consideration related to the vessel, or to meet any lawful obligation, present or future.  

The following documentation should be submitted for the different mortgage registration services: 

  1. Original or certified true copy of the Bill of Sale or Builder’s Certificate where applicable duly notarized (Note that the request for the Bill of Sale/Builder’s Certificate is required for the recording of the ownership title which is mandatory prior to recording of the mortgage). 
  2. Duly signed and notarized Mortgage form which is provided by the Merchant Ships (Registration) Act of 2010 (individual forms attached as Appendix 3, 4, 5, 6) 
  3. Duly signed and notarized Deed of Mortgage/or Loan Agreement. (Supporting documents to evidence the service being undertaken – Mortgage, Amendment, Transfer) 
  4. In the case of a Discharge of Mortgage, supporting documents are not necessary since the notarized mortgage form itself serves as the supporting evidence to discharge the mortgage.  
  5. Payment of appropriate fees
