Appointments of Recognized Organization and Flag Inspectors

The Technical Department is in charge to recommend, evaluate and appoint Recognized Organization in compliance with the Code for Recognized Organizations (RO Code) adopted by Resolution MSC.349(92). The Recognized Organizations (RO) are authorized to act on behalf of the Belize Flag Registry to carry out various functions relating to surveys, inspections and certification of Belize registered ships.  

The appointment of an RO involves a through evaluation process which the respective RO needs to submit and comply with the relevant international standards and guidelines. Once appointed, the RO is officially authorized to conduct surveys, inspections, issuing statutory certificates and providing technical advice and assistance to ship owners and operators.  

The Technical Department is also in charge of the oversight programme and conduct on regular basis on-site audits in order to confirm that any authorized RO continue to be in compliance with national and international requirements for continuation of the delegation of authority granted.
