Mortgage Registration
IMMARBE provides mortgage recording services for vessel registered under the Belize Registry. Mortgages are bilateral contracts between the mortgagor (shipowner) and the mortgagee (lender). The owner of a registered vessel in respect of which the ownership title has been registered, either preliminary or permanent, may mortgage it as security for a loan or other valuable consideration related to the vessel, or to meet any lawful obligation, present or future.
The following documentation should be submitted for the different mortgage registration services:
- Original or certified true copy of the Bill of Sale or Builder’s Certificate where applicable duly notarized (Note that the request for the Bill of Sale/Builder’s Certificate is required for the recording of the ownership title which is mandatory prior to recording of the mortgage).
- Duly signed and notarized Mortgage form which is provided by the Merchant Ships (Registration) Act of 2010 (individual forms attached as Appendix 3, 4, 5, 6)
- Duly signed and notarized Deed of Mortgage/or Loan Agreement. (Supporting documents to evidence the service being undertaken – Mortgage, Amendment, Transfer)
- In the case of a Discharge of Mortgage, supporting documents are not necessary since the notarized mortgage form itself serves as the supporting evidence to discharge the mortgage.
- Payment of appropriate fees
