General Safety Inspection Program

The General Safety Inspection (GSI) Program is a comprehensive inspection program designed to ensure that ships registered with the Belize Register meet certain safety standards. The program involves regular inspections of Belize registered ships to ensure that they comply with the international conventions and regulations as well as national legislation related to the ship safety, such as the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Seas (SOLAS) and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

The GSI program may include both routine and targeted inspections and may involve both physical inspections of the ships and documentation reviews. The appointed GSI Inspectors may examine a wide range of safety-related issues, such as the condition of the ship’s hull and machinery, the effectiveness of its fire protection and life-saving equipment, and the competence and training of its crew.

The goal of a GSI Program is to ensure that Belize registered ships are safe to operate and that they do not pose a threat to the environment or the safety of crew members, and to avoid possible detention at Port State Control Inspections. The ship register wants to continue improving its worldwide status by maintaining high safety standards of vessels and to obtain the highest status possible within different status on the MOUs.
